JOB DESCRIPTION:
GCRC is seeking to hire a Direct Support Professional to work at the Milestone Center, which is an adult day program for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves creating and promoting an enviornment of engaging activities while assisting / supporting these individuals with activities of daily living (eating, grooming, toileting, mobility, etc.). The Direct Support Professional plays a crucial role in fostering independence, promoting life skills development, and ensuring an overall safe and supportive day program environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Individualized Support: Supporting adults with developmental disabilities in their daily activities - this involves meal preparation, medication administration, assisting with / teaching basic hygiene practices, positive / meaningful social interactions, cleaning, and transportation. Being familiar with and following each individual's Individualized Support Plan or Behavioral Plan.
- Skill Development: Encouraging and supporting residents in developing independent living skills including bugeting, cooking, personal care, time management, and environmental cleanliness practices.
- Upkeep of Physical Environment: Keeping the physical environment clean at all times, working with individuals to dust, sweep, wash dishes, clean tables, etc.
- Community Integration: Facilitate participation in community events, recreational activities, and social engagements to promote inclusion.
- Health & Safety: Monitoring individuals' health and wellness, managing emergency situations, and maintaining a safe living environment.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records including data collection, attendance logs, daily / monthly progress reports, incident reports, and medication logs.
- Advocacy: Advocating for individuals' needs and rights, ensuring their voice is heard and respected in decision-making processes.
- Planning: Planning and presenting proposed activities and outings at weekly staff meetings so that arrangements can be made for extra funding or staffing.
- Preparation: Preparing a nutritionally balanced menu, preparing food, serving individuals, assisting with eating as needed.
- Teamwork: Working closely with other employees, case managers, and families to develop and implement individualized support plans.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED (some roles may require additional certifications)
- Fingerprint Clearance Card
- CPR/First Aid, CIT, and Article IX Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, empathy, and a team-oriented attitude
- Patience and a commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs
- Punctuality and availability for scheduled shifts
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and assisting with mobility.
